Theme: Activism and social change through storytelling
Since the beginning of 2021, we at The Writing Platform have been taking a deeper look at all kinds of digital storytelling and have begun to publish our articles around several themes. Through open calls, we have been reaching out to our global audience to find out what innovations you have been excited about, what technologies you have been experimenting with and what stories you have been telling. We have been overwhelmed by the response.
Our first theme was audio storytelling and we have published articles from around the world on topics such as how to listen to a city, storytelling in 360° sound, how to manipulate audiences using binaural sound, adaptive podcasting, immersive audio experiences for people with Parkinson’s disease, designing interactive audio for children, and audio locative storytelling.
We hope you enjoyed reading the articles as much as enjoyed working with their writers to develop them.
Now, we are excited to launch our second theme, Activism and Social Change Through Storytelling. Over the next few months, we will be bringing you articles ranging from storytelling as a community-driven and peace-building tool in Northern Ireland to the links between digital fiction and therapy and from an audio project involving asylum seekers detained by the Australian government to how to bring awareness, education and empathy into virtual theatre.
Following that, our next theme, which will be launched in the new year, will be Augmented and Virtual Reality Storytelling. We are currently looking to commission articles so get in touch if you’d like to contribute.
